About

Hi, I’m Filip M. de Waard. 👋

Interests

I love technology and building things with it. Lately, I'm obsessed with AI: building it into our product at Timewax and exploring how the development team can make the most of it.

My other passions, or vices, include reading and collecting books, gastronomy, visiting wine regions and tasting wine, smoking Cuban cigars, gaming, playing board games with friends, and watching Ajax lose at football (hopefully not for long!).

Work history

I started experimenting with programming in the late 1990s. At 14, I started my first company and began building websites professionally. At 15, I spent six months in Ann Arbor, Michigan, working on supply-chain software for Boeing.

In 2002, I began working full-time through Net Collective. Over the next decade, I ran it as a full-service internet company and consultancy. I eventually sold its web-hosting business and tried to shift the company's focus from services to products. When Vix, the CMS I was building, didn't achieve product-market fit, I moved to Amsterdam and joined the local startup community.

In 2014, I joined Treatwell as one of its early employees. During a period of rapid growth, I helped the company expand internationally and led the development of its salon-management software. It was an amazing experience. In 2016, after Treatwell was acquired, I joined Floyd & Hamilton as CTO, where I worked with a wonderful team to build recruitment websites for companies including Coolblue.

Since 2019, I have been responsible for technology and the development team at Timewax. My work is now primarily management, but I still write code whenever I can.

Personal

After living in Amsterdam for a while, I moved to Soest, a small town in the middle of the Netherlands. My wife Geertje and I live there with our cat Nellie and our dog Nessa. Our home is a small 17th-century cottage with a modest garden, filled with my books and my wife’s crafts.
